What is Ashtanga?
Ashtanga yoga was founded in India by K. Patthabi Jois in 1948, a student of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.
Ashtanga is a dynamic form of classical Indian (hatha) yoga. Made up of six series or levels, with a fixed order of postures that flow (Vinyasa) from one to the next, for the same breath count, every time you practice.
A classic Ashtanga routine demands fitness, flexibility, and focus, which can create a calming, yet sweaty form of moving meditation and promote mental clarity and inner peace.
Ashtanga Yoga is the yoga of the Ashta (eight) Anga (limbs). It is the practice of Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. It is taught through asana; Asana is a tool for the practitioner to dive into the deeper realms of its subsequent seven limbs.
Ashtanga practice is based on the Tristana method: Pranayama, Asana, and Dristhi, (gaze). The breathing technique is Ujjayi (breathing through the nose while tightening the throat).
The Primary series, or yoga chikitsa, is a healing practice. It is a practice meant to work on resetting the physical body so that the practitioner can begin to work at a deeper level by sitting in meditation, sitting for pranayama, or working with the body at deeper levels through the series that follow it.
The Second series, or Nadi Shodhana, is a sequence of poses designed to clear the nervous system and the energy channels of the subtle body.
The Second series practice includes deep backbends and hip openers that fires up the sympathetic nervous system with the goal of creating stress on the nerves in a safe space to learn to cope with it in a non-stressful space.

My yoga story
Hi,
My name is Ella,
Thank you for letting me share with you about my yoga journey
Since I remember, I was always dancing everywhere, doing gymnastic exercises, handstands, cartwheels, and more.
The movement was always an integral part of my life
When I stopped my professional dance career as a ballet and contemporary dancer my body and my soul kept asking me to look for something else
I found a way to bring peace and meaning back into my life when I was introduced into the yoga world while staying in a yoga ashram in 2012
In 2016, I started my professional journey as a certified yoga teacher, practicing and teaching classes, workshops, and retreats around the world inspired by the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga style
Yoga became part of me
I can't start or finish my day without my self-practice
I am passionate to share my practice, my knowledge, my expertise, and my experience
I invite you all to join me on my yoga path
Connect to your breath, your body, soul, and spirit
Connect to yourself through the movement and relax your mind
Would love to meet you all
Namaste
Ella
